The plan states: Garden Community.......to avoid housing developments that can overwhelm existing facilities and infrastructure. There is no way this can be carefully managed with thousands of additional homes! The majority of people will always take the quickest and easiest transport/route in their hectic lives ie a car will more likely be chosen over a bus or walking. Clingo Hill will become completely gridlocked and the road through Elmstead will become dangerous especially the junctions in the village, where accidents are already happening.
Having lived in Colchester for 46 years, the roads cannot cope with the increased number of cars already seen, adding more will make it impossible. I'm guessing the people who designed this garden community, do not actually use the roads in this area on a daily basis. Far less housing and improvements to existing roads through Colchester is whats needed. There is no way the town can cope with this development.

'The aim of achieving a minimum of one job per household, either close to home or within a sustainable commuting distance'. An aim is not a requirement, it is highly unlikely that one person in every household will be employed within the development. Therefore, referring back to my first point that most people will jump in their cars to get to work rather than use public transport.
Again, less housing. Colchester and the surrounding area cannot cope with increased traffic and increased demand for jobs.

'To ensure neighbourhoods are walkable, low traffic and livable, where residents can access most of their daily needs within a 20-minute walk or safe bike ride from their home'. I for one would not want to try and cycle or walk home with my 6-8 shopping bags after my weekly food shop!!!! Nor would I take the bus. People with always navigate towards using their cars as it is quicker and easier. Most houses tend to have 1-2 cars, add a couple of kids who drive and a family household can have 3 cars + !
There is no way Colchester can cope with 9000+ households with all their cars. The only change would be to dramatically reduce the size of the development.

'A PLACE DESIGNED FOR THE IMPACTS WHILE MINIMISING ITS CONTRIBUTION TO CLIMATE CHANGE'
More cars on the road, more time spent in traffic = more pollution!!
The destruction of nature, ploughing up a whole area of agricultural and grassland to make way for houses and concrete roads= releasing into the atmosphere heat-trapping carbon dioxide that plants, trees, and soil stored safely.
This is not minimising the contribution to climate change!
Significantly reducing the amount of housing!

' Where infrastructure cannot be provided within, or is not appropriate to be located on, the Garden Community site itself, developers will be expected to make a contribution to the cost to provide the infrastructure elsewhere'
So if needed, where will this end up being?????
If you are not sure, more planning is therefore needed!
